“Where every story roars to life”

Co-hosted by ROAR AFRICA Founder and CEO Deborah Calmeyer and UC Berkeley psychologist and best-selling author Professor Dacher Keltner, this singular journey invites you to explore awe not only as an emotion, but as a path to transformation, healing and connection.

If I'm lucky enough to live until I am 95, I hope my face looks like the land I love most.
An ode to Africa, by ROAR AFRICA CEO & Founder, Deborah Calmeyer

We often talk about rewilding the land but what about the self? Modern life pulls us away from our instincts, our rhythms, our sense of presence. In the vast spaces of Africa, something changes, a softening, a remembering. Rewilding isn’t a retreat... it’s a return.

In today’s fast-moving world, we’ve lost the spirit of discovery. But when we take the time to travel with reverence, the journey becomes something more. It becomes a return to beauty, the kind that opens us, softens us and reminds us of what truly matters. Every ROAR AFRICA journey is about the connection to self, to each other, to the awe that shapes us.

Our fifth Women’s Empowerment Retreat took place at Xigera, in Botswana’s sacred Okavango Delta. This year, the retreat echoed with a quiet but powerful question: What if the most meaningful way to empower women… was to choose them?

Embark on the Greatest Safari on Earth 2025, an epic journey that explores four of Africa’s most iconic wildlife destinations – Zimbabwe, Botswana, Kenya and Rwanda – across 12 days in unbridled luxury. There is no trip in the world like this one!

“We flew like angels, we soared. We shook our heads in wonder, we closed our eyes in prayer… words will never be enough. Your vision, your power, your exquisite execution - only here there is no contrast, no one can compete. I am eternally grateful.” – Guest

In 2024, we ‘Returned to the Wild’ with David Whyte, world-renowned philosopher, poet and naturalist, on an extraordinary journey imbued with wildlife, wellbeing and the wisdom of a poet with a unique ability to translate the wonder of the wild into words.

“This is a deep dive into our humanity; an incredible time to expand and transcend in a way I have never known travel to affect the human being. It will forever be the greatest privilege of my life, having delivered this trip.” - Deborah Calmeyer, Founder & CEO, ROAR AFRICA
