Summit

“It’s a journey that touches you on every level – physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.”

“Kilimanjaro is one of the best things you can do in your lifetime...”
“...if not the best thing!”

Climb Mount Kilimanjaro
Following the success of our inaugural ascent in 2024, ROAR AFRICA invites you to A Journey to the Summit, our Kilimanjaro climb of a lifetime in Tanzania, returning in December 2026. After almost two decades of changing lives through safaris across our home continent, we know nature is our greatest source of freedom and joy. To summit this peak, either solo, with friends or with your loved ones in tow, is the pinnacle of experiential travel in Africa.
This trip will be unlike anything you have ever done before. While Kilimanjaro is the largest freestanding mountain in the world, Tanzania’s iconic peak is also one of the more accessible mountain climbs, which we will ascend, slowly and thoughtfully via the spectacularly beautiful Machame Route. Our guides will be Ed Viesturs, one of the world’s most respected high-altitude mountaineers and the only American to have climbed all fourteen of the planet’s 8,000-metre peaks without supplemental oxygen, and world-class mountaineer and adventurer Oliver Browne. From their expert perspective, A Journey to the Summit is achievable for anyone with a sense of adventure, determination and an intermediate fitness level – if you can comfortably walk for up to five hours on fairly flat terrain, you are already well on your way.
The summit of a lifetime
After a soft landing with ample time to acclimatize at Arusha’s stunning Legendary Lodge, surrounded by a sprawling coffee plantation, our trek begins with a gentle hike through pristine rainforest toward the Materuni waterfall, before settling down for the night. The following days settle into a relaxed rhythm and pace of climbing, ascending through diverse scenery that spans jungle, forests and later on, desert until we reach the summit—after which, we’ll descend by Tropic Air helicopters.
The duration of the trek is intentional, allowing guests to embark on this adrenalizing adventure toward the ‘Roof of Africa’ at their own pace. The acclimation to altitude is done gradually and gently, and incidences of altitude sickness on the Machame Route are significantly reduced when approached in this slow, considered way. This journey is not a race but a meditation in motion, replete with comfortable sleeping arrangements, excellent chef-cooked food, ample porters, and a highly experienced doctor with us every step of the way for your comfort and peace of mind.
Beyond the physical challenge, A Journey to the Summit has been conceived as an inner journey as much as an outer one. Days on the trail settle into a meditative rhythm as guests walk, talk and reflect in the shadow of one of the world’s most iconic peaks. The feeling of being part of something bigger than yourself is so integral to the human experience, and the impact of it stays with you long after you come down.
