Your Kilimanjaro Ascent, Reimagined

Following our inaugural 2024 ascent, where 100% of our guests proudly reached the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, ROAR AFRICA invites you to A Journey to the Summit in December 2026. After almost two decades of changing lives through safaris across our home continent, we know nature is our greatest source of freedom and joy. To summit Africa's highest peak solo, with friends, or with loved ones, is a life-changing achievement you will hold in your heart forever.

While Tanzania's iconic 19,340-foot mountain requires no technical climbing skills, the ascent requires some endurance, mental fortitude, and respect for altitude. We'll climb via the spectacular seven-day Machame Route—widely regarded as the finest approach to the summit for its gradual acclimatization profile, diverse climates and spectacular scenery.

Guided by experts: Ed Viesturs, the only American to have climbed all fourteen of the world's 8,000-meter peaks without supplemental oxygen and a renowned motivational speaker, leads this expedition alongside world-class mountaineer and 2024 expedition leader Oliver Browne, plus our exceptional Tanzanian team, including guides John Bosco and Michael Mushi. Dr. Emmanuel Tesha, our physician, accompanies the group to the summit, monitoring your health and safety every step of the way.

Within your reach: If you can comfortably walk for six to seven hours on varied terrain and arrive well-prepared, this summit is within your reach. Our 2024 climbers ranged from their late 40s to early 60s, male and female, and every single one stood proudly atop the Roof of Africa.

Climb with ROAR AFRICA

Africa is our home. This isn't just another Kilimanjaro climb—it's a meticulously designed ascent that guarantees your comfort.

  • Optimal Timing: Climb in early December when trails are quieter, views are clearer at higher elevations, and you'll experience Kilimanjaro at its most intimate and beautiful.
  • Private Kosovo Camp Launch: Begin and end your trek from our exclusive Kosovo Camp, giving you a significant advantage in both ascent and descent while avoiding crowded trailheads.
  • Proprietary Luxury Camping: Sleep in spacious stand-up tents on comfortable beds with 6,000-meter-rated sleeping bags, hot water bottles nestled into blankets, plus a heated dining tent for delicious chef-prepared meals, and private bathrooms.
  • Helicopter Descent: After summiting, descend by Tropic Air helicopter from Kosovo Camp directly to Legendary Lodge—skipping the downhill trek that ends most Kilimanjaro climbs.
  • Unmatched Guide-to-Guest Ratio: With Ed, Oliver, John, Michael, Dr. Tesha, and our full support team, you'll have world-class expertise wrapping you in encouragement and care throughout the journey.
  • 12-Week Training Plan: Should you like, receive our structured preparation program and direct support from Oliver Browne in the months leading up to your climb.

The Rhythm of Ascent

Your journey begins with a soft landing at Arusha's stunning Legendary Lodge, where you'll spend time acclimatizing amid spectacular coffee plantations. A walking safari in Arusha National Park—where giraffe, buffalo, zebra, and colobus monkeys roam free—sets the tone for beauty, adventure and the peace that only Africa’s landscapes deliver before the trek begins.

On the mountain, we hike first through pristine rainforest alive with black-and-white colobus monkeys, then upward through moorland, alpine desert, and finally glacial terrain. Each day settles into a meditative rhythm: slow, intentional walking that allows your body to adjust to the air. The Barranco Wall—one of the route's most photogenic features—is an exhilarating scramble upward that most guests rank as a highlight, requiring no ropes or technical skills.

This measured pace is intentional. The seven-day Machame Route dramatically reduces altitude-related illness compared to faster itineraries, and our 2024 success rate speaks for itself. You'll be outfitted, prepared, and supported by guides who've stood atop the world's highest peaks.

Beyond the physical challenge, A Journey to the Summit is an inner journey as much as an outer one. Days on the trail create space for reflection as you walk, talk and breathe in the shadow of one of the planet's most iconic mountains. The feeling of being part of something greater than yourself is integral to the human experience, and the Kilimanjaro effect stays with you long after you descend.
