Botswana, the jewel of Africa

Planning a journey to Africa requires insight and discretion. The continent offers extraordinary scale and variety, and knowing where to begin, and whom to trust, shapes your entire experience.

Having grown up in Africa, I carry a deeply personal perspective to every journey we create. For more than two decades, my life’s work has been designing journeys that allow our guests the most precious luxury of all, time — knowing that every detail of your experience has been carefully considered.

When I am asked which destination in Africa is essential to explore, Botswana consistently rises to the top. From the Okavango Delta’s shifting waterways to the expanse of the dry Kalahari, Botswana unfolds gradually. Here you are offered something increasingly rare: uncompromising wilderness where experience is defined by depth. It is Africa at its most elemental: expansive, generous and unforgettable.

To explore Botswana in its most complete expression, I return time and again to three regions.

Moremi Game Reserve

Okavango Delta

A living inland delta that transforms with the seasons, Moremi offers extraordinary wildlife encounters by land and water. Exceptional properties such as Xigera Safari Lodge and Singita Elela have been selected, where thoughtful design, privacy and comfort allow for uninterrupted access to one of Africa’s most important wildlife regions. Whether gliding along the Delta’s watery channels in a mokoro or exploring on foot with expert guides, the experience is both immersive and intimate.

Liyanti Wildlife Reserve

Duma Tau Camp

Further north, Linyanti’s floodplains and ancient elephant corridors create a landscape of movement and contrast. Positioned between these important pathways, Duma Tau Camp offers rare proximity to one of Africa’s greatest wildlife spectacles. With only a handful of carefully positioned camps, the experience here remains deeply personal and refined. Each day the richness of this exceptionally beautiful region, from predator sightings to remarkable birdlife, can be explored by both land and water.

Makgadikgadi Pans National Park

Jack's Camp

From water to salt, the Makgadikgadi Pans shift the rhythm entirely. Here, vast horizons, desert-adapted wildlife and profound silence offer a rare perspective. At Jack’s Camp, heritage elegance meets the stark beauty of the Kalahari, creating one of Botswana’s most distinctive safari experiences. Time here is shaped by the harsh environment, experienced through guided walks with San trackers, quad biking and horse riding across the pans or intimate encounters with meerkat.

A journey to Botswana with ROAR AFRICA is for those who understand that iconic wilderness still exists — where time is precious, access is thoughtful and every detail is shaped with absolute intention.
