In December, ROAR AFRICA is excited to be hosting its second private ascent of Mount Kilimanjaro, guided personally by world-acclaimed mountaineer, Ed Viesturs alongside expedition leader Oliver Browne. With our inaugural departure selling out through private invitation, this second ascent is intentionally limited.

This is not a public climb. It is a controlled, meticulously orchestrated expedition, designed for those who wish to experience Africa’s highest mountain with the highest level of expertise, operational precision and personal comfort currently available on Kilimanjaro.

Leadership defined by judgement

World-renowned, Ed Viesturs is the only American to have summited all fourteen 8,000-meter peaks without supplemental oxygen, including Mount Everest. His reputation, however, rests less on altitude than on judgment. For over three decades, Viesturs has been regarded within the mountaineering world for one defining principle: reaching the summit is optional; returning safely is not.

On Kilimanjaro, this philosophy translates into disciplined pacing, intelligent acclimatization, and expert decision-making at every stage of the ascent.

Supporting Viesturs is Oliver Browne, who has summited Kilimanjaro multiple times, including ROAR AFRICA’s 2024 private departure. Together, this team bring both global high-altitude mastery and intimate mountain-specific knowledge.

On this journey you are doing more than joining a guided group. You are climbing within an exceptional leadership circle.

As Viesturs notes: “A Journey to the Summit is achievable for anyone with a sense of adventure, determination and an intermediate level of fitness.”

A controlled ascent. Your journey begins

The journey begins with two nights of private acclimatization at Legendary Lodge in the foothills of Mount Meru, allowing your body to adjust before the climb begins.

On the mountain, ROAR AFRICA operates a fully private expedition camp — purpose-built for this departure. Spacious, full-standing tents with proper camp beds, high-altitude sleeping bags, hot water bottles, bedside tables, lighting and charging points, heating elements and private serviced facilities travel with you throughout the ascent. Heated dining tents and chef-prepared meals with all dietary requirements are catered for. While portable hot showers, private toilets, wash basins and an experienced camp manager with a dedicated front-of-house team provide a level of ease rarely associated with high-altitude climbing.

Further supporting the expedition, a medical professional specializing in high-altitude medicine is present throughout, along with a team of dedicated porters. This comprehensive level of care ensures every detail is anticipated and every contingency planned — allowing you to focus fully on your singular role: to climb.

The decisive difference. A time to restore

Most Kilimanjaro ascents end with a demanding two-day descent on foot. But yours does not. After summiting at 19,341 feet, you will depart the mountain by private helicopter in a restorative and time-efficient finale that allows you to leave the mountain at your strongest.

This journey to the summit, is a structural reimagining of the Kilimanjaro experience — designed for those who value both achievement and intelligent exit.

An invitation. Join the adventure

Climbing Kilimanjaro is a considered decision. Located in northern Tanzania, Mount Kilimanjaro is the largest freestanding mountain in the world. To summit its 19,341 feet (5,895 meters) peak is not only the pinnacle of adventure travel in Africa, but a deeply personal achievement.

We invite you to speak directly with our team and with Oliver Browne to explore the expedition in detail, including preparation, fitness expectations, medical oversight and the rhythm of the ascent.
