A quick review of The Greatest Safari on Earth 2025:

The vibrant sun gently rises
To bid us farewell
Starlings harmonizing
A joyful wake-up call
And even the ominous hyena
Popped by with a curious “Cheerio.”

Sent off by a staff of spiritual warriors
Donning kind eyes and humble smiles
And armed with weapons of generosity;
We say tearful goodbyes
To a staff that feels like family now.

Welling up with gratitude
for the opportunity
To taste the pure intention of Xigera—
Love by universal design.

Vowing to return one day
To reclaim the piece of our soul left behind
on the delta of limitless perfection.

Every year, I search for the words to describe The Greatest Safari on Earth℠, and every year I fall short. To try to describe the magnitude of the trip, the transformation that occurs in all of us, be it guests who are experiencing their first time in Africa or those who have come back a third time, is impossible. In fact, it is often our guests that say it best and it’s humbling to hear the same statement over and over again: “There is no other trip in the world like this; it is 10 times more wonderful than I thought!”

It is truly a privilege when our travelers put their experiences into words and Nancy’s poem, at the beginning of this newsletter, speaks to the very essence of The Greatest Safari on Earth℠: the connection with the “staff of spiritual warriors,” the love, the intangible magic of Africa and the way the continent imprints itself on your soul. These reflections speak to the heart of why we do what we do. To see our guests fall in love with Africa’s vastness, to watch people become lifelong friends and to know that the places, cultures and communities we hold so dear have touched them deeply.

In Zimbabwe, the thunderous spray of Victoria Falls jolts the soul awake, the sheer force of the Zambezi River plummeting 354 feet into the chasm below stirring something ancient inside each and every one of us. In Botswana, the Okavango Delta revealed its secrets: painted wild dogs at their den, lions guiding cubs across predator-laden waters, elephants grazing under blood-red sunsets. In Kenya, we drifted in hot-air balloons above the Masai Mara, swept up in the wonder of the Great Migration, suspended between heaven and earth. And in Rwanda, we ascended the misty, emerald slopes of the Virunga Massif to sit in the presence of the world’s last remaining mountain gorillas. One guest later told me how the group’s trek to reach them became a lesson in unity, each encouraging the other onward, a reminder that we are carried forward by community and those that surround us.

There is no formula for transformation, yet it happens every year, unfailingly on The Greatest Safari on Earth℠. Guests arrive in anticipation and leave forever altered: lighter, connected, inspired. And so I return to Nancy’s words: a vow to return one day, to reclaim the piece of our soul left behind. That is the essence of this journey… it is not just travel through four countries, but a return to ourselves.
