ROAR AFRICA and M'oda 'Operandi

July 19, 2017

Drawing on her experiences in Africa and her deep connections to people and places, our CEO and founder Deborah Calmeyer has been delivering one-on-one journeys into Africa for her discerning clients for more than a decade. Blessed with that rare ability to curate, design and deliver travel experiences that essentially match people to places, she is all too familiar with the vagaries of packing for a holiday in the bush.

‘What to pack for a safari is a common conundrum for any female guest,’ says Deborah. ‘And one that is most often settled with a slew of uninspiring khaki ensembles.’ All too often, a long-haul holiday to Africa means more than just a bush destination. ‘Our guests typically combine bush, beach and city experiences,’ Deborah concurs. ‘So, a well-planned wardrobe is an absolute must.’

Happily, the days of packing so sensibly that there’s little left to play with, when it comes to style are well and truly over, thanks to an exciting collaboration between ROAR AFRICA and online luxury fashion retailer Moda O’perandi. Now ROAR AFRICA guests will be able to choose from a pre-selected range of designer pieces not usually available in the traditional luxury retail stores. ‘Our selection was influenced by the experiences that we offer on the ground,’ says Deborah. ‘This informed everything from the fabrics and styles to the diversity of the categories that we have included.’

Moda O’perandi was founded in 2010 by Lauren Santo Domingo (one of New York’s most authoritative fashion figures and a contributing editor on Vogue) and Aslaug Magnusdottir (an Icelandic businesswoman and New York-based fashion entrepreneur), Moda O’perandi allows customers to pre-order looks directly from designers, straight off the runway. Guests can access the ROAR AFRICA store on the Moda O’perandi site where they can shop the curated edit of clothing entitled: Safari, Tropical and Cape Town. The wardrobes will be updated monthly and for those who prefer the shopping experience over online, they can visit the Moda O’perandi boutique on Madison Ave too.

‘I tried it recently for a trip to Jordan and loved the ease of the entire process,’ says Deborah. ‘It was wonderful to eliminate the time-consuming initial process of searching for clothes, and instead find myself presented with an incredible wardrobe to match my itinerary, that fitted perfectly too.’ It’s yet another way in which ROAR AFRICA seeks to take the hassle out of travel, leaving you to immerse yourself in the experiences on offer.
