Malilangwe Gonarezhou

The Gonarezhou National Park is in the southeast of Zimbabwe along the Mozambique border. It is the second-largest in the country after Hwangwe National Park and forms part of the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park, with the Kruger National Park in South Africa and the Limpopo National Park in Mozambique.

It is a hot, semi-arid lowland home to the magnificent red sandstone Chilojo Cliffs which feature rock art dating back nearly 2000 years. Its neighbor, the Malilangwe Private Wildlife Reserve, is north of Gonarezhou and is home to an abundance of wildlife and birdlife.

Singita Pamushana Lodge

Singita's Pamushana Lodge is situated within the Malilangwe Wildlife Reserve in southeastern Zimbabwe. Nestled beneath the trees, the lodge is effortlessly incorporated into its natural environment and features stunning forest-like architecture. It has spectacular views onto the pool, the lush gardens and the lake below. The accommodation ranges from one-bedroom suites to a five-bedroom villa. Malilangwe Wildlife Reserve is teeming with birds and wildlife, including rare and endangered species, such as the roan antelope, sable and the black rhino. Famous for its Mopane forests and majestic 'upside-down' Baobab trees, Malilangwe also has over 100 rock sites that date back 2,000 years.

All game drives are all conducted in state-of-the-art Land Cruisers, each accommodating a maximum of six guests. During your stay you are likely to spot a wide variety of wildlife including white and black rhino, Lichtenstein hartebeest, sable, nyala, klipspringer, cheetah, wild dog, lion, leopard, and an abundance of bird life.

Day 3

- Malilangwe Gonarezhou, Singita Pamushana Lodge

Singita Malilangwe Walking Safaris

Walking safaris are an incredible way to experience the bush up close and personal. Your expert guide and tracker will accompany you as you track animals on foot through the wilderness and explore the magnificent plants and landscapes around you. This activity is available for children from 16 years and older.

Singita Malilangwe Conservation

Malilangwe employs 80 scouts, some ex-poachers, who risk their lives daily to protect rhinos. They have been so effective that they have not lost a rhino in 5 years versus the 2463 rhinos killed in 5 years just across the border in South Africa. The program's success has enabled Malilangwe to send some of its rhinos to other African reserves. Rhinos benefit the ecology of a protected area by filling the ecological niche they held before local extinction, so there is great value in restoring these species to areas they once inhabited. In addition, establishing geographically distant populations disperses the risks associated with poaching, disease, and climate change.

Singita Malilangwe Trust

In 1994, the not-for-profit Malilangwe Trust was established as a result of the largest ever, single donor investment in Zimbabwe, in order to purchase, protect and manage the wilderness area next to the Gonarezhou National Park. Singita is the ecotourism arm of a 130,000 acre reserve, and its role is to help foster the sustainability of the wildlife and broader ecology, while enabling guests to share the magic of the lodge and reserve. All proceeds from the lodge benefit the numerous conservation and community outreach programs.

Day 4

- Malilangwe Gonarezhou, Singita Pamushana Lodge

Rhino Reintroduction Program Malilangwe

From the outset, the Malilangwe Trust recognized that elements of biodiversity were missing from the reserve. The local extinction of black rhinoceros and the depletion of white rhino numbers to only nine individuals were cause for great concern. A program to reintroduce these species was initiated in 1998 when 28 black and 15 white rhinos were purchased and imported from KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa. The introduced animals were closely monitored by Malilangwe's security force. All animals were individually identifiable through a system of ear notches. Monitoring and protection have been sustained over the past 24 years, and the effort has paid off handsomely, with substantial increases in both populations.

The Painted Dogs of Malilangwe

Painted Dogs, also known as African Wild Dogs, are unique to Africa and they are among this continent’s most endangered species. It is estimated that less than 7,000 remain in the wild. Observing these precious animals in their natural habitat from the comfort of a game viewing vehicle is such a privilege, as is the ability to provide them with a safe, natural habitat in which to flourish. The 130,000-acre reserve was specifically established to conserve and protect this significant wilderness region; something it has done with great success since 1994.

Singita Malilangwe Sundowner Cruise

The African sunset is an occasion worth celebrating and the dam below the lodge is the perfect spot to enjoy a gorgeous sunset cruise while sipping refreshing sundowners and to watch the magnificent wildlife and birdlife on the dam, if you are lucky enough you may also get to see the animals as they come down to drink.

3 Nights in Sabi Sand

ACCOMMODATION
5 x Luxury Suites inclusive of all meals, beverages (including premium wines, spirits and liqueurs, but excluding French Champagne), twice daily open Land Rover safaris, walking safaris, road transfer between Singita airstrip & lodges and laundry service

Sabi Sand

An astonishingly beautiful private reserve that sits on the border of the Kruger National Park, Sabi Sand offers a variety of exclusive retreats specifically geared towards the most discerning of travelers. Breathtaking scenery and incredible wildlife encounters are sure to astound. The Sabi Sand Reserve itself consists of a number of smaller private reserves. It is the birthplace of sustainable wildlife tourism in South Africa and, as such, has an impressive conservation track record. It is also the oldest of South Africa's private reserves and has only ever been a wilderness area. A rich mix of diverse game, true exclusivity and a good serving of bush luxury await.

Singita Ebony Lodge

As the original Singita lodge, Ebony’s position in the heart of South Africa’s ‘big cat country’ makes for a unique wilderness experience. Situated in Sabi Sands Reserve, a group of private concessions adjacent to Kruger National Park in the lowveld of Mpumalanga, daily drives here never fail to deliver sightings of everything from leopard, lion, rhino, buffalo and elephant, to cheetah, wild dogs and many types of bird. Situated as it is on the banks of the Sand River, Ebony Lodge takes safari design to new levels with a fresh contemporary take on the bush aesthetic. Here interiors are contemporary yet historic with antiques, original artefacts, period chests, authentic hunting memorabilia and original family heirlooms from owner, Luke Bailes’ grandfather, who first bought the concession in 1925. Each of the luxurious twelve suites is immersed in nature, with external walls replaced by canvas and glass to maximize the views. Private pools and outdoor pavilion decks are suspended off the riverbank as if they are hanging off the trees. Activities include everything from mountain biking to archery, guided safari walks, spa treatments and the use of an outdoor gym. A stargazing safari beneath the vast African sky is another must-do.

Day 5

- Sabi Sand, Singita Ebony Lodge

Sabi Sands Wildlife

Renowned for Big Five game viewing, the Sabi Sand Game Reserve lies adjacent to the south-west corner of The Kruger National Park, with which it shares a 50-kilometer boundary. There are no fences between the two reserves, allowing game to move freely between the areas and, as a result, the reserve offers some of the most exceptional wildlife in southern Africa. Two rivers cross Sabi Sand: The Sabi River on its boundary in the south and the Sand River that flows from northwest to southeast. This has resulted in an abundance of leopard, lion, rhino, elephant, buffalo, cheetah, zebra, giraffe, hyena and a wide variety of antelope and other species.

Day 6

- Sabi Sand, Singita Ebony Lodge

Singita Ebony Guided Bush Walks

Walking safaris are an incredible way to experience the bush up close and personal. Your expert guide and tracker will accompany you as you track animals on foot through the wilderness and explore the magnificent plants and landscapes around you.

Sabi Sand Sunset Cocktails

As you wind up your day, your game drive will be spiced by an evening of pure relaxation of body & mind right in middle of the African bush. Your ranger will decide on the perfect spot for you to enjoy a refreshing sun-downer, allowing you to stretch your legs while experiencing the one of the most exquisite sunsets you will ever see.

- Sabi Sand, Singita Ebony Lodge

Singita Ebony Game Drives

Enjoy the exloration adventures on a tailormade game drive with your personal Field Guide. With unfiltered time in wide-open spaces you are bound to be enchanted by encounters with Africa’s most iconic wildlife. Ebony Lodge has access to 45,000 acres within the breathtaking wildlife sanctuary that’s renowned for its high concentrations of big game and frequent leopard sightings.

Birding at Singita

The Kruger National Park and Sabi Sands has a list of over 500 bird species, some of which are not to be found elsewhere in South Africa. Hornbills, Starlings, Vultures, Rollers, Bee-eaters and Shrikes typify the ubiquitous avi-fauna and birders can look forward to pursuing the big 6 (Saddle-billed Stork, Kori Bustard, Martial Eagle, Lappet-faced Vulture, Pel's Fishing-Owl and Ground Hornbill). This area of South Africa is exceptionally rewarding for birders.

ACCOMMODATION
5 x Luxury Cottages inclusive of all meals, drinks (excluding Connoisseur wines and French Champagnes), laundry, 2 game drives per day in open 4x4 vehicles with professional guide, guided walks, mountain biking, tennis, airstrip transfers and park/concession fees

Grumeti Reserve

Singita Grumeti is situated adjacent to the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania, where the great migration takes place every year. This annual trek of two million animals through the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem is one of the greatest natural spectacles in the world. While the migration can be witnessed from June to August, during the months of September and October some of the wildebeest herds and other species, including zebra and Thomson’s gazelle, remain. During November, southbound wildebeest return from the Masai Mara in Kenya back into the reserves from the onset of the first rains

Singita Sasakwa Lodge

Situated adjacent to Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park, the home of the great migration, and set within 350 000 acres of the game rich Singita Grumeti concession, Singita Sasakwa is a classic Edwardian style manor house and the flagship of the Singita Grumeti stable. Set high on a hill overlooking the Serengeti plains, the house is timeless and sophisticated and feels more like a private home than a public space with the dining room, lounge and library all looking out onto the Serengeti plains while the décor is an eclectic mix of colonial style, African collectibles and European antiques. With just seven cottages and a private villa, each cottage comes with a private pool and every luxury necessary for the bush. Along with incredible access to the mass movement of zebra and wildebeest during the great migration, one of the major perks of staying in a private concession such as Singita Grumeti is that you’ll experience less traffic to game viewing sites, as well as the opportunity to track animals off-road. Singita purports a low-impact, high-value tourism model where fewer guests pay a premium for the privilege of experiencing vast open spaces, thus sustaining these wilderness areas and the resident wildlife for perpetuity. In short, Singita Sasakwa offers what many believe to be the quintessential Serengeti safari experience.

Day 10

- Grumeti Reserve, Singita Sasakwa Lodge

Singita Grumeti Anti-poaching team

The Singita Grumeti Fund anti-poaching team is made up of 120 dedicated scouts. These scouts patrol the 350,000-acre private concession and are based in 12 scout camps and in 12 observation posts (OP) dotted across the reserve. Each OP is manned by two scouts who are constantly surveying the area for any unusual activity. This could be poachers coming through the protected area or vehicles that do not belong to the company or a herd of cattle entering the area or an animal in distress. The scouts are responsible for quickly identifying any incursions and reporting them to the rest of the anti-poaching team who can then act accordingly. Two scouts are stationed at the OP for one week at a time. They share responsibilities of cooking, cleaning and most importantly making sure that one person is on the look-out at all times. Demonstrations are available any day after 10h00, with a 24-hour notice period.

Day 13

- Singita Volcanoes National Park , Singita Kwitonda Lodge

MORNING ACTIVITY
Gorilla Trekking - 1 permit per person

Volcanoes Golden Monkey Trekking

The very beautiful Golden Monkey has a golden body, cheeks and tail with contrasting black limbs, crown, and tail-end. Not much is known about their behavior; other than they live in groups of up to 30 individuals and their diet consists mainly of leaves and fruit - it is believed they eat insects too. Restricted to the highland forest of the Virungas especially near bamboo, they share this habitat with their big Brother the Mountain Gorilla, inhabiting a small area that overlaps the territory of one of the Gorilla families. Trekking usually takes from 2 to 4 hours. Once you come to the habituated families, you will spend the allowed one hour with them as they go about their daily life.

Akarabo Nursery at Singita

As the land the lodge is on has been under agriculture for many years, one of the priorities for its inclusion in the park is for it to be rehabilitated with appropriate local vegetation. To support this initiative, Singita has established their on-site Akarabo Nursery, that already holds more than 60,000 plants. Many of these plants have been purchased from neighboring communities, including nursery cooperatives run by locals that have been established and are actively supported by Singita in the form of skill and knowledge sharing, as well as through ongoing procurement. You are welcome to visit Akarabo Nursery and Vegetable Garden to enjoy the space and learn more about the significant conservation and biodiversity projects underpinning the nursery.
