About Zambia

Neighboring countries are the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the north, Tanzania to the north-east, Malawi to the east, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana, and Namibia to the south, and Angola to the west. The capital city is Lusaka, located in the southeast of the country. The population is concentrated mainly around the capital Lusaka in the south and the Copper Belt to the northwest.

Getting to Zambia

There are no direct flights from the United States to Zambia, however, one can fly to Johannesburg or Cape Town in South Africa and fly direct from there to Lusaka or Livingstone in Zambia.

Safety and Security within Zambia

Keep large amounts of money, expensive jewelry, cameras and mobile phones out of sight and do not change large sums of money in busy public areas. Keep originals of important documents in a safe place and carry copies of passports and immigration permits in a separate place to the documents themselves.

Zambian Climate

There are wide seasonal variations in temperature and rainfall. October is the hottest month. The main rainy season starts in mid-November, with heavy tropical storms lasting well into April. Zambian Visa Requirements

United States citizens must obtain a visa to visit Zambia. It can be issued on arrival at a cost of 135US$ and is valid for multiple entries for the period of stay. A valid passport is also required for entry to Zambia.
