About Seychelles
Seychelles, officially the Republic of Seychelles, is an archipelago nation of 115 islands in the Indian Ocean, some 1,500 kilometres (930 mi) east of mainland Africa, northeast of the island of Madagascar. Seychelles has the smallest population of any state in Africa. These beautiful tropical islands are possibly the most romantic you'll find anywhere, with white sand beaches, tropical forest and pristine coral reef.
Getting to Seychelles
There are flights from Europe, Africa (Johannesburg), the Middle East, and beyond. Charter flights, helicopters and boats will complete the transfer from the Victoria's international airport (on Mahe island) to the 115 beautiful options that await!
Safety and Security
Petty crime is a problem, but violent crime against tourists is rare. Be vigilent especially in crowds.
Climate
Perfect! 365 days of sunshine, no hurricanes/cyclones, warmer and wetter between November and January than between May and October.
Visa requirements
A valid passport, onward/return ticket, the local address where the visitor will stay, and proof of sufficient funds are required. A one-month entry visa may be obtained upon arrival and may be extended for a period of up to one year.
People
As the islands of the Seychelles had no indigenous population, the current Seychellois are composed of people who have immigrated to the island. The largest ethnic groups are those of French, African, Indian, and Chinese descent. French and English are official languages along with Seychellois Creole, which is primarily based upon French.
Currency
Seychellois rupee (SCR)
Health
Malaria free. Medical facilities in Seychelles are limited, especially on the isolated islands where doctors are often unavailable. All travelers should visit either their personal physician or a travel health clinic 4-8 weeks before departure.
