Namib-Naukluft

THE LARGEST GAME PARK IN AFRICA
Scale lends the guest a sense of context here, from the park's massive size to the height of its towering dunes, from thousand year-old plants to hundreds of miles of open red plains. Untouched nature doesn't get better than this.

The Namib-Naukluft is nature's way of helping us remember just how insignificant we really are. The park's name stems simply from its location, traversing the Namib Desert and the Naukluft Mountains (also incorporating sections of the Diamond Area). The park includes Sossusvlei and its world-famous dunes - the sheer scale and majesty of which defies description (they reach up to 1000ft / 300 meters in height). The Namib Desert section of the park offers a multitude of opportunities for inspired contemplation and meditation along with numerous rare species of animal - and plant - life. For the more active, the Naukluft is well served by mountain trails, many of which are suitable for hiking and four-wheel driving. Most phenomenal is the ability of this hyper-arid region to sustain life. Fauna includes jackal, gemsbok, reptiles, snakes and some very unusual insects, amongst others. Flora most famously includes the ancient welwitschia. Interestingly, the vast majority of this colossal park (19200m2 / 50000km2) is not accessible to human visitors
