Durban

SOUTH AFRICA'S SUB TROPICAL CITY
Durban has a strong African flavor peppered with Asian and Indian influences. Unlike Cape Town with its cool, penguin-friendly ocean and European charm, Durban has a sub-tropical climate, warm seas and a thoroughly unique and vibrant energy. Part of the exotic appeal of Durban stems from its eclectic history. Populated since 300.000BC, the surrounding province (of which Durban is the capital) eventually became a colonial British outpost and the centre of Britain's significant sugarcane industry. The indentured Indian laborers shipped in to work on the sugar plantations brought aspects of their colorful culture with them, lending Durban a slightly eastern feel. This is Africa's busiest shipping port, South Africa's third most populous city and a launching pad for exploring beaches, mountains and safari in the Zulu Kingdom.
