Lake Natron

Situated just north of the Ngorogoro Crater and forming part of the Great Rift Valley, Lake Natron is the world's most caustic body of water. Nestled amongst active volcanoes, ash deposits have created a soda lake hostile to most living creatures, except the salt-loving microorganisms that thrive in its alkaline waters and create its magnificent red color. This hostile environment creates a ideal nursery for millions of flamingoes, as no predators are able to survive in the area. Visit Lake Natron for its beautiful scenery and interesting walks.
